White Asparagus

One delicacy that the Germans seem to be very fond of is White Asparagus.

It is a different variety to the asparagus we have in NZ and is grown under ground.  When choosing your asparagus you choose big thick shoots (rather than slender ones) because you have to peel them first before cooking.  They are quite stringy on the outside.

As you might guess, we had white asparagus for tea!
